Capturing the Essence: Behind the Scenes of Chris Wong's "Been Here For Days" Photoshoot

I recently had an incredible experience shooting the cover for Chris Wong's debut single, "Been Here For Days." Let me tell you all about it—it was a whirlwind of creativity, infectious energy, and bittersweet nostalgia.

Chris, a rising star in the music scene, brought an amazing energy to the shoot. His casual yet captivating presence made my job as a photographer a breeze. We effortlessly connected, chatted, and explored different poses and concepts throughout the entire shoot. If you haven't already, be sure to check out his single on Spotify here.

The location we chose for the shoot was an old warehouse in the heart of Dublin's Quays. It was a unique space that was undergoing remodeling, soon to be transformed into something new. The idea of capturing its unique aesthetic before its transformation added an extra layer of significance to the shoot.

"Been Here For Days" carries a vibe akin to the feeling of a "party's over." It evokes a sense of nostalgia and reflection, and we aimed to capture that essence in the images we created. The warehouse's weathered walls and faded charm provided the perfect backdrop for conveying this emotional depth.

To elevate the visuals, I decided to rent lights for the shoot. As the sun began to set, we set up two large Aperture lights inside the warehouse. The goal was to cast striking shadows and create an intimate atmosphere that would enhance the "party's over" ambiance of the song. The warehouse's interior, with its intriguing corners and hidden spots, lent itself beautifully to capturing this mood.

For the final few images, I had Chris choose a song to dance to. The goal was to capture his movement amidst the dramatic play of light and shadow, embracing the introspective nature of the music. He chose Lizzo's "About Damn Time," which turned out to be an incredible choice. As the music filled the warehouse, Chris's dance moves and the dynamic interplay of shadows created some truly remarkable shots that embodied the essence of the song's emotion.

Shooting inside the warehouse did come with its challenges. Despite the presence of large windows, certain areas were quite dark, requiring us to rely on the lights we had brought. It was an interesting experience, working with new equipment and adapting to the environment, but it ultimately pushed our creativity to new heights.

I feel incredibly grateful to have been a part of Chris's journey, capturing the essence of his music before he inevitably becomes a well-known name. This shoot was not just about creating visually stunning photographs, but also about showcasing the passion and raw talent that Chris possesses, and infusing the images with the "party's over" vibe that resonates through his music.

In the end, it was a truly remarkable experience. The combination of Chris's magnetic energy, the unique location in Dublin's Quays, and the creative tools we employed resulted in an unforgettable photoshoot. I'm honored to have played a role in Chris's artistic journey and can't wait to see where his talent takes him. Keep an eye out for this rising star!
